What originated in Bengal in South Asia is now an all-time favourite in the architectural community, and that is the bungalow. This low-lying home equipped with a veranda is no longer just for the bourgeoisie, either. Anyone is within reach of this super cool and hip design. They're simple and straightforward with their flat roofs and compact design, and they're ideal for open living concepts. So why are we raving about bungalows? Because we have an incredibly sophisticated one to show you today!

This project is the perfect example of a modern bungalow equipped with all the amenities one could ask for to give you optimal style and comfort. It was brought to us by the architect Romero De La Mora and is located in beautiful Mexico City. So if you want to see what all the hype is about, take a few minutes out of your day and explore this bungalow with us!

A street view

When we stand in the middle of the neighbourhood street, we get a perfect head-on view of the front façade. This bungalow presents itself as a simple, discreet, and classic home.

The shape is straightforward and doesn't include any grand protrusions or ornate carvings, but that's just fine for this radiant white façade. We get nothing but a sense of the traditional with this home, especially in the front yard with these isolated plants and low-lying hedges.

Moving around the exterior

Here on the garden side, the house reveals itself as a more open and extroverted building with large glass surfaces.

In fact, the back of the home consists almost entirely of windows, which remove the boundary between interior and exterior space and subsequently integrate the vast garden area into the living concept. What's more, this home offers its residents a beautiful terrace that is sheltered by a roof.

Open spaces

Here inside the home, you can really appreciate the vast open space it has to offer, and as you can see, it is flooded with natural light thanks to those enormous windows and glass doors. Living, eating, and cooking areas have been merged into one another.

The colour scheme here is neutral and bright as subtle grey and cream tones complement the light, warm wood, and different textures and a few select accessories create a very cosy, sophisticated, and inviting atmosphere.

Classy kitchen

Turning around, we find ourselves in this lavish, yet minimally designed kitchen. We have a better view of the dining area that's big enough to comfortably seat six people and is attached to the clever kitchen island.

Each piece of furniture and decoration in this home screams modern, cosmopolitan design, from the clean lines to the use of high-quality materials.

Extra food space

Lastly, we'd like to show you one of our favourite corners of the home, and that is the walk-in pantry. This little room offers these residents so much extra storage space for food, pots and pans, spices… you name it! Pantries help keep kitchens and dining rooms spotless and clutter-free, and with this unique sink addition, even meal prep here is no problem. Even here, the harmonious use of soft colours, warm wooden tones, and refined lighting are the main focus and create an overall peaceful ambience.

If you liked this cosmopolitan home, then you'll love this one that's hiding away in the woods.
