We guarantee if you ask friends, family and acquaintances if they have (or have ever had) a personal blog or website, the percentage would be rather high. Personal blogs and websites advertising your special skills, interests or even hobbies are a great way to showcase your talents to the world, and more importantly, potential employers.

Whether you blog/vlog on your free time, or do it as a full-time position, you more than likely engage in these activities from home with limited office space.  However, this is okay! There are plenty of ways in which to create an at-home environment cohesive to the work to be done.  Below we have listed several tips and tricks to turn any space, into a space perfect for making videos, taking photographs and interviewing your favorite subjects for a new post!

Tidiness

As with any productive space, make sure you have an area of your home solely designated for blogging/vlogging. Keeping the space tidy, organized and accessible will help you in the long run.  Think about drawers and desks with quirky storage space to hold every little item you might need.

More importantly, the space should awake you the morning and make you feel inspired for a new post—so think about small items that keep you positive.  Whether it be a cute lamp, a great graphic print like the one pictured here, or a daily bouquet of fresh flowers.

Space for taking photographs

Assuming that you're including images in your posts—you will need a proper space to conduct photography sessions!  For this you will need a larger table, decent backgrounds to work with (white wall colours and maybe some black fabric for a different set-up) and great lighting.  Natural light is the foundation of all photographic practice and using natural light will always give you a better result than artificial light and spotlights.

Work with the windows and shadows created in your room and set-up your table and equipment appropriately. The room pictured here offers a stark white background, a table large enough to photograph most necessary objects and enough room to work around the shadows.

Cozy sitting area for interviews and talks

If you're interviewing your favorite shop owners, designers, friends and fellow bloggers, then you most definitely should create a space for interviews and talks.  This should include cozy seating for at least three—leave two for guests—a table, and perfect accessories to set the mood. Think about candles in fun candle holders, fresh bouquets of flowers and great coffee table reading books—these items can all inspire and be conversation starters.

Again, keep the space clean, organized and tidy—you never want to give the wrong impression.

Space for making videos

Including videos on your website or blog is a great way to show your creative abilities and get your point across in a dutiful manner. Although camera and video equipment can be expensive, plenty of people can now shoot with their phones with minimal extras and accessories necessary.

For a perfect video space, think about a large table that can double for everything else—whether it be a desk, a meeting area, or a play area (like seen here.)  Both artificial and natural lighting should be included in the room, along with video screening equipment, like a tv, so you can view your finished product with friends or colleagues. Think about a desk with larger desktop computers (like here for a proper editing and reviewing session for post-production.

Perfect lighting

Perfect lighting is one of those things that will benefit you no matter what area of your home it's a part of.  Not only does allowing more sunlight in your home have health benefits and help with happiness (even in those colder winter months), but it will make your space (and everything in it) brighter and more beautiful.

If you're an early-morning worker, letting natural light flood into your space will wake you up, making you more productive and efficient.  In evening hours, opt for decently-lit lights that aren't too bright, or too dim.  Especially if you're typing, editing photographs and videos or looking through books and magazines for inpsirations—the right light will keep you awake and keep your eyes healthy.

This wonderful space can prove to be an office/study, a dining area and even a great area to interview in!

Extraordinary specials: creative wallpaper

With all of these design aspects being from a more functional point of view—it's also fun to think of creative ways in which you can add colour and personality to your work space.  We suggest something fun with low maintenance—creative wallpapers.  Whether you're sticking wallpaper up behind bookshelf holes or only on one wall, creative wallpapers that have bold colours, neat patterns, or even textures—can liven up any space.

Here is a newer example of how neutral colours and even exposed bricks can work in your office space if you organize your books and accessories according to colour—what a neat idea—and easy!

A functional desk for post-production

Lastly, a proper desk offering stringent functionality and clean minimalism is what will make or break any office and working space. Finding a desk with functionality desn't necessarily mean it has to lack in personality!

If you prefer something more sleek and small, then consider placing storage options elsewhere in the room—in upper- or lower-areas of your walls and cabinets—or opt for what this designer did and choose long, covered cabinets for optimal storage and a clean look!  The options are endless when blogging and vlogging and what's most important is that you're making a space that inspires new ideas for new projects and collaborations!
