I am really disappointed with my new stove by C&J. I recently bought a Prevision 5Wide. It looked great in a local showroom and, even though it was pricey, I took the plunge. It was fitted professionally in the summer and I was really looking forward to trying it out come Autumn. I am not a stove novice. This is the 6th multifuel stove I have owned in various homes and I've been lighting them successfully for 20 years. I understand the physics of getting a stove lit and it never crossed my mind that I would have a problem with this new one. However, I can safely (and very frustratingly) say I have never come across a stove that is so utterly ridiculous and difficult to light. It billows smoke into the room within seconds of trying to light it so you have to open all the windows and doors which lets the cold air in and defeats the object of lighting a fire in the first place. It is soul-destroying to see great plumes of smoke spewing out of this contraption and it comes out from literally everywhere - the top, all around the door (when closed) and the vents at the bottom. I've have tried every technique possible and every combination of settings to stop this happening but nothing works. I have watched online tutorials on YouTube and read online forums. I have tried various different fire-lighter brands with just two bits of dry kindling up to 15 bits of dry kindling (obviously I don't use newspaper). I have tried different widths of kindling and even spliced some to make it thinner and catch quicker before the smoking starts. I have tried adding single bits at a time like I'm feeding a dying animal. I have tried tepee and jenga/cube style stacks of kindling, I have tried door-fully-open, half-closed and closed. I've tried using all of the above with the 'ignition' and 'auto' settings. I've tried heating the metal flue to get an up-draft going and I've even tried bringing other lit logs from my other stove but ABSOLUTEY NOTHING WORKS. This expensive metal box just spews out thick smoke into my room. I have tried nearly 20 times and it fills my house with smoke on EVERY SINGLE OCCASION. I have had in total about 4 successful fires (i.e. got to the log stage). The fitters came back and confirmed that it has been fitted properly and suggested that I try a jenga-style kindling tower and to use lots of patience! Including fitting, I am about £3,000 out of pocket and all I have is a useless metal box sitting in the middle of the room. It was supposed to be the main heat source for the room which now means I have to use electric fans instead which is expensive and not the look I wanted. I want my money back so I can buy a stove that actually works. I am so angry that this product is useless and now I am also cold because the temperature has dropped to freezing outside.

I own a Paragon One gas fire and a Fireline FP8 and both have been amazing. There are several 1* reviews on Google and I cannot fathom why, a fire cutting out after 15 minutes is either spilling fumes or overheating both of which are installer faults. The rear ceramic brick of a stove cracking is normal and can happen anywhere from 2 hours to 2 years into use, if it has fallen apart it has been knocked with a log, overfired, or wet wood has been used as mine is now 5 years old and still working (yes it's cracked but fine). This should be explained by your RETAILER. Charlton & Jenrick are a manufacturer, if you have a problem with a car do you go back to the dealership or phone Ford/Vauxhall or whoever? Your contract is with the shop. These products and particularly the ones I own are high quality, hot, efficient and have lasted (my gas fire is 10 years old and looks brand new because it is serviced and maintained every year by a competent independent gas fire engineer (not a "boiler man") I would recommend C&J to anybody ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I had the displeasure of experiencing Charlton and Jenrick’s (C&J) aftercare ‘customer service’. I purchased a C&J stove through my local independent showroom. The showroom were fantastic throughout but having received the stove, which was manufactured and packaged by C&J, it became apparent during installation that there were damaged and missing parts. To be fair, C&J quickly replaced these (after initially advising that they wouldn’t deal with me directly and they would need correspondence from the retailer before they could help). However, the replacement took two attempts as the first was also incorrect; again their error. These mistakes meant that my gas engineer had to reschedule a return, understandably at an additional cost. Having contacted C&J to discuss reimbursement, they repeatedly advised me that my contract was with the retailer and nothing to do with them. This seems to be their repetitive ‘get out’ response to most of the negative reviews that I’ve retrospectively read on Google. Despite the damaged and missing parts being nothing to do with the retailer and all to do with Charlton and Jenrick’s quality assurance, they maintained their position, despite clearly being at fault. The local retailer kindly offered to help cover some of the cost as a gesture of goodwill. Charlton and Jenrick need to take more responsibility for their own mistakes, irrespective of their legal obligation. I can’t advise on the product itself as I haven’t had it long enough but based solely on other reviews and my own personal experience of their attitude towards customers and their retailers, I would advise you to consider an alternative manufacture.
